What the bulletin says

Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communication

Certain Maserati Grecale MHEV (M182) MY23 MY24 MY25 listed in MODISCS+ are involved in a Customer Service Notification (CSN) to update the Engine Control Module (ECM) software update. This update is needed to improve the ECM software calibration, following the best practice about battery SOC targets and Start & Stop threshold. As consequence the Customer may not be able to start the vehicle. This software update is part of an improvement strategy to optimize the electric behavior of the vehicle. Note that some MY23 vehicles also need to update the Transmission Control Module (TCM) module, Although there are no reported issues impacting the TCM, the implementation of new ECM software requires the TCM software to be updated as well for compatibility reasons.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 3 model years this bulletin names have filed 13 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 2 of them name Engine — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

The contact owns a 2023 Maserati Grecale. The contact stated while driving at approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle started losing motive power. The coolant warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was veered to the side of the road and restarted.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.
