Lincoln bulletin 23B49 S2

What it saysCertain 2021 - 2023 Model Year Aviator Vehicles Equipped With SYNC - Reprogram Accessory Protocol Interface Module Owner letter submitted 09/06/23 NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Lincoln filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Jan 17, 2024, received Feb 7, 2024, about the electrical system. It names 3 model years (2021–2023). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 3 model years this bulletin names have filed 140 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 36 of them name Electrical System — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

I bought this car in march 2026. It is a 2023 Lincoln aviator black label, it was a CPO. Within days of me having it, I noticed there were electrical issues. The interior light kept popping on for no reason. The cooling seat feature was also not working. The adaptive cruise control was also not working correctly.

2023 Lincoln Aviator · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Sep 14, 2026 · ODI 11764067

My vehicle’s camera system, including the backup camera, is experiencing an issue where the passenger-side camera fails to display properly, showing only a blank black area. I have reported this issue to my dealership for future inspection.

2021 Lincoln Aviator · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Nov 6, 2025 · ODI 11698036

I had damage to my electrical system caused by rodents chewing wires. Upon researching this issue I have found that Ford Motor Company has used soy-based wire coatings which has led to this being a consistent problem with this vehicle.

2022 Lincoln Aviator · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Jan 21, 2025 · ODI 11637250

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Lincoln 23B49 S2 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the 23B49 S2 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does 23B49 S2 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 3 model years: 2023 Lincoln Aviator, 2022 Lincoln Aviator, 2021 Lincoln Aviator. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
