Lexus filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Oct 2, 2023, received Jun 26, 2023, about the engine — 2 documents under this number: L-SB-0032-23 and 1 more. It names 7 model years (2016–2022). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 7 model years this bulletin names have filed 479 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 120 of them name Service Brakes, Engine — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

On the 2017 Lexus RX, the 12 owners who gave an odometer reading for Service Brakes reported it at a median of 13,000 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.

I am reporting a safety issue with a 2016 Lexus RX350, VIN , with about 60,000 miles. The vehicle is registered in and was being driven to when it suddenly overheated on XXX near . The warning lights appeared while the vehicle was traveling at highway speed. The driver immediately took the first available exit within about one minute.

At on , I was pulling into my gym's parking lot, when I stepped on the break to park my car, instead of stopping, the car accelerates rapidly and crashed through the other side of the sidewalk where there were light pole and cement walls, throwing me forward and backward with seat belt on, I was in total shock! 2.

2018 Lexus RX · Service Brakes · filed with NHTSA Oct 23, 2024 · ODI 11621427

Loss of power brake assist. The Lexus dealer diagnosed a failed vacuum pump. This is common with the 2016/2017 RX 350's. Lexus has admitted a manufacturing problem with the pumps and has a service bulletin (L-SB-0010-18) and a safety recall on the 2017's (JLD J2D). The recall should be extended to the 2016's.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Lexus L-SB-0032-23 Rev a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the L-SB-0032-23 Rev repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Toyota warranty extension on file lists the ones Toyota has filed.

Which vehicles does L-SB-0032-23 Rev cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 7 model years: 2022 Lexus RX, 2021 Lexus RX, 2020 Lexus RX, 2019 Lexus RX, 2018 Lexus RX, 2017 Lexus RX and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
