Lexus bulletin 22LC02

What it saysDP: The subject vehicles may have been equipped with an engine containing an incorrectly manufactured Crankcase Case Vent. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Lexus filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Oct 24, 2023, received Sep 15, 2022, about the engine — 4 documents under this number: 22LC02 Dealer Pa (4 filings). It names 2 model years (2022). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 2 model years this bulletin names have filed 21 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 2 of them name Engine — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

Sudden engine stalling in the middle of a highway with extremely heavy traffic and stopped in the center lane. Needs to wait inside the car with a passenger in a very scary, tense situation and exposed to serious accident, until a towing arrive for about 1.5 hrs later. The car was towed to the dealer.

2022 Lexus IS · Engine · filed with NHTSA Mar 3, 2024 · ODI 11575122

Unknown. Clicking sound coming from the passenger side of engine compartment by the vacuum pump. It occurs on cold starts and with the vehicle under load. I have video evidence of the sound. Not sure if it’s related but my breaks sometimes feel like they are not gripping as much

2022 Lexus IS · Engine · filed with NHTSA Dec 5, 2022 · ODI 11496172

There is already a service bulletin for the vacuum pumps on these cars, but it should be made into a recall because these pumps generate the vacuum needed by the brake system.

2022 Lexus ES · Engine · filed with NHTSA Jan 15, 2026 · ODI 11711049

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Lexus 22LC02 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the 22LC02 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Toyota warranty extension on file lists the ones Toyota has filed.

Which vehicles does 22LC02 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 2 model years: 2022 Lexus ES, 2022 Lexus IS. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
