Jeep bulletin S2308000091

What it saysKey Programming, Lost Keys, Tool Response 0x22 Negative Response NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Jeep filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Jul 27, 2023, received Sep 25, 2023, about the electrical system. It names 5 model years (2019–2023). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

Doing the repair yourself, or pricing it before the shop does? Search the part by fitment on eBay Motors — the listing and the price are the seller’s.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 5 model years this bulletin names have filed 260 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 92 of them name Electrical System — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

Since May 2024, my 2022 Jeep Renegade Sport has developed serious safety-related issues involving the fuel/propulsion system, power train, and electrical systems. Specific incidents include: Strong fuel vapor odor detected both inside and outside the vehicle, even when parked, raising inhalation and ignition hazard concerns.

I submitted a report about this vehicle on December 4, 2023 (11558276) because the mechanic thought the computer chip failed on this vehicle that had less than 25,000 miles. After waiting 6 weeks for a new chip, the mechanic test drove the car and experienced the same problem.

2021 Jeep Renegade · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Jan 28, 2024 · ODI 11568292

In April 2022, to my surprise the car first stalled on me while I was driving. The “pressure coolant high” was warning light that appeared on the screen when this happened. To start the car, I had to put it in park and then push the ignition button to get it started again.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Jeep S2308000091 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the S2308000091 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Stellantis warranty extension on file lists the ones Stellantis has filed.

Which vehicles does S2308000091 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 5 model years: 2023 Jeep Renegade, 2022 Jeep Renegade, 2021 Jeep Renegade, 2020 Jeep Renegade, 2019 Jeep Renegade. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
