GM filed this with NHTSA as a warranty extension dated Aug 13, 2024, about the engine. It names 2 model years across Chevrolet and GMC (2021). A warranty extension is not a safety recall — there is no NHTSA campaign number and no federal requirement — but it is usually work the manufacturer pays for on the vehicles it names; the dealer checks the VIN against the manufacturer’s list.

What the bulletin says
Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communicationPicked out of NHTSA’s summary below, word for word. The document itself is the record, and the dealer checks the VIN.
What it applies to, as NHTSA’s summary states it — build dates and equipment as the manufacturer filed them. The dealer checks the VIN and the build date on the door jamb; a vehicle outside the window is not covered by this bulletin.
Special Coverage. Certain vehicles, equipped with a 2.8L diesel engine (RPO LWN), could have a condition that may intermittently cause the throttle body motor to fail to complete the throttle position learn cycle within the allowed time. If this condition were to occur, the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (Check Engine Light) would illuminate, and a diagnostic trouble code would set. The engine may also be placed in a reduced power mode. Dealers are to replace the throttle body as necessary. The repairs will be made at no charge to the customer.

Read by machine from the document NHTSA serves (5 pages), read Sep 30, 2026. A part number is shown only where it matches GM’s own catalogue shape, an operation only with its code and time, and a description only where the reader got it whole; anything it could not settle is left out, and the PDF is the record. Times are the manufacturer’s warranty allowances, not a quote.
The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5Is GM N242445290 a recall?
No. A warranty extension is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.
Is the N242445290 repair free?
A warranty extension is usually paid by the manufacturer on the vehicles it names, within the terms and time limit the document sets; the dealer checks the VIN against the manufacturer’s list.
Which vehicles does N242445290 cover?
The manufacturer filed it against 2 model years across 2 brands (Chevrolet and GMC): 2021 Chevrolet Colorado, 2021 GMC Canyon. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
