Our vehicle is in for the 4th visit for a persistent oil leak. The first 2 visits resulted in a vehicle inspection and cleaning of engine area with no leak found, stating is was most likely left over oil from messy oil change. The 3rd visit resulted in replacing the rear main seal and problem was resolved per dealer.

For this item - Please refer to NTHSA RECALL 18V-465 : BMW Crank Sensor Recall 9/12/2018. In particular - this refers to a 2018 BMW 540ix. Specifically, "VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTUTRED WITH A CRANKSHAFT SENSOR, THAT DUE TO SENSOR FIRMWARE, CANNOT ACCURATELY PROCESS THE INPUT FROM THE CRANKSHAFT RELUCTOR RING.
