Audi bulletin TSB_2082948_1

What it saysThis bulletin provides information when the transmission position cannot be selected. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Audi filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Aug 5, 2026, received Sep 4, 2026, about the power train. It names 5 model years (2025–2026). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 5 model years this bulletin names have filed 84 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 4 of them name Power Train — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

On at least five occasions since we purchased this vehicle brand new in January 2026, the digital transmission system has failed to switch into park and would not switch into park -- producing an error message. To resolve the issue, it required multiple restarts of the car, and there is no clear step to resolve the issue.

2025 Audi SQ5 · Power Train · filed with NHTSA Sep 8, 2026 · ODI 11762667

After the automatic start/stop system engages, the engine stalls and completely shuts off shortly after the vehicle begins moving again. This occurs after the vehicle restarts and travels only a few feet. When the stall happens, the vehicle loses power and the engine stops functioning while the car is in traffic.

2025 Audi Q5 · Power Train · filed with NHTSA Mar 11, 2026 · ODI 11723732

Was told that the rear differential was defective and needed to be replaced. After this rear differential was replaced, it still is not fixed. The problem was confirmed by the dealer. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership and the manufacturer. No messages or warning lamps were activated.

2026 Audi A6 · Power Train · filed with NHTSA Jun 9, 2026 · ODI 11743049

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Audi TSB_2082948_1 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the TSB_2082948_1 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does TSB_2082948_1 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 5 model years: 2025 Audi A5, 2026 Audi A6, 2025 Audi Q5, 2025 Audi S5, 2025 Audi SQ5. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
