Audi bulletin A6023682063187_4

What it saysThis bulletin provides information for when the outer perimeter seal is loose on the panoramic sunroof opening. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Audi filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Oct 9, 2023, received Nov 6, 2023, about the visibility/wiper. It names 57 model years (2017–2023). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 52 model years this bulletin names have filed 2,001 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 1 of them name Visibility/Wiper — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

Panoramic roof glass exploded outwards while driving on the highway. No sign of rock damage or debris hitting. The glass is deformed outwards. The glass was sent towards the interior of the car. The sunroof shade was closed and many pieces of glass were caught by this otherwise the driver would have been hit by glass shards

2019 Audi SQ5 · Visibility/Wiper · filed with NHTSA Aug 30, 2024 · ODI 11611752

Two large windshield chipping in less than 3500 miles. Very bizarre considering the cost of the car. I own another vehicle, similar size (VW touareg 2012). It was hit many times and there are barely any marks left on the windshield. Is acoustic windshield (which my car is equipped with) less resistant to cracks and breaks?

2017 Audi Q7 · Visibility/Wiper · filed with NHTSA Dec 30, 2017 · ODI 11057683

While driving the rear half of the sunroof exploded. With no warning there was a sudden, very load "pop". The sunroof pane had completely shattered and was only held in place by the aftermarket tint layer that had been applied. The mesh shade that sits below the sunroof kept any pieces from falling on us while driving.

2018 Audi SQ5 · Visibility/Wiper · filed with NHTSA Apr 21, 2023 · ODI 11518259

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Audi A6023682063187_4 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the A6023682063187_4 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does A6023682063187_4 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 57 model years: 2023 Audi A4, 2022 Audi A4, 2021 Audi A4, 2020 Audi A4, 2019 Audi A4, 2023 Audi Q3 and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
