Alfa Romeo bulletin 09-013-25

What it says"Oil Leakage From The Timing Cover Customers may experience the following: Oil leaking from the timing cover. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Alfa Romeo filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Jun 5, 2025, received Jun 2, 2025, about the engine — 3 documents under this number: 09-013-25 REV. B, 09-013-25 REV. A and 1 more. It names 10 model years (2020–2024). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

What the bulletin says

Built on or before 2 May 2024 “Built on or before May 02, 2024”

What it applies to, as the document itself states it — the build window in the manufacturer’s own words, read by machine from the PDF NHTSA serves. The build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb; the dealer settles a borderline vehicle by its VIN.

"Oil Leakage From The Timing Cover Customers may experience the following: ● Oil leaking from the timing cover. Once the claimed fault is confirmed, check the severity of the leak and replace the timing cover sealant, if necessary, according to the Repair Procedure. "

Read by machine from the document NHTSA serves (4 pages), read Sep 30, 2026. A part number is shown only where it matches Alfa Romeo’s own catalogue shape, an operation only with its code and time, and a description only where the reader got it whole; anything it could not settle is left out, and the PDF is the record. Times are the manufacturer’s warranty allowances, not a quote. Listings and prices on eBay Motors are the seller’s.

Affiliate disclosure: some links on this page are affiliate links. If you request a quote or buy through them we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Nothing on this page changes because of it.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 10 model years this bulletin names have filed 80 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 18 of them name Engine — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

Engine light came on. I was told by the first dealership that the coolant was mixing with the engine oil. There was also a vehicle at the shop there for the same issue. after doing some research online, it appears that this is a bigger issue. I bought the car at 20,000 miles and this began happening around 52000 miles.

2020 Alfa Romeo Stelvio · Engine · filed with NHTSA Jul 13, 2026

The engine oil cooling system failed on my 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio 2.0T at approximately 45,000 miles. The failure caused engine oil to contaminate the engine coolant system, creating a brown/milky “milkshake” substance inside the coolant reservoir and throughout the cooling system.

2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio · Engine · filed with NHTSA May 20, 2026

The contact owns a 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 35–45 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The “Do Not Drive” message was displayed. The contact called an independent mechanic and was referred to the dealer.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Alfa Romeo 09-013-25 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the 09-013-25 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does 09-013-25 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 10 model years: 2024 Alfa Romeo Giulia, 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia, 2022 Alfa Romeo Giulia, 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia, 2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia, 2024 Alfa Romeo Stelvio and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone. The document itself sets the build window: built on or before 2 May 2024 — the build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb.
