As you can see, there is an open recall on my vehicle. This seems to be impacting roughly 80 thousand cars in the US. BMW does not have parts to fix this recall and is continuing to ask drivers to keep driving their cars with defective breaking system.

My 2024 BMW X5 has been on recall which is The Integrated Brake (IB) system/ safety recall since February, 2024. The brake system is not functioning properly and sometimes the car brakes automatically by itself which is a concerning issue and may lead to a crash.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communications

Are brake problems common on the 2024 BMW X5?

They are documented: NHTSA holds 90 owner complaints naming the brakes on this model year (62% of everything owners filed about it), and 1 recall is filed under the same heading. Whether it is a problem on one particular car is a diagnosis, not a count, and a count says nothing about how many were sold.

Is there a recall for the brakes on the 2024 BMW X5?

Yes — one campaign is filed under this heading: 24V697000. A recall is matched by VIN; check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

When do brake problems show up on the 2024 BMW X5?

Too few of the complaints carry an odometer reading to say. The model year's page shows the mileage curve across every system where it can.

What does NHTSA's "Service Brakes" heading cover?

The hydraulic brakes, ABS and brake assist. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
