Problem Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA (Yamaha) is recalling certain 2021 Tracer 9 GT (MTT9GT) motorcycles. The throttle grip may break if used to pull up a motorcycle fallen on its side. Risk A broken throttle grip may restrict throttle movement or cause a loss of throttle control, increasing the risk of a crash. Fix Owners should not operate their motorcycle, other than to take it to a dealer, until the remedy is performed. Dealers will replace the grip end and if necessary, the throttle grip assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on March 17, 2022. Owners may contact Yamaha customer service at 1-866-894-1626. Yamaha's number for this recall is 990156.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 990156 is the number Yamaha assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 22V110000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
