Problem Yamaha Motor Corporation (Yamaha) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 YZF-R3 F/G motorcycles manufactured January 1, 2015, to April 15, 2016. The clutch pressure plate bearing may break due to an insufficient load rating, causing the clutch to not disengage and preventing the transmission from shifting properly. Risk If the clutch cannot be disengaged, the rider may not be easily able to stop the motorcycle, increasing the risk of a crash. Fix Yamaha has notified owners, and dealers will replace the clutch pressure plate bearing, free of charge. The recall began July 11, 2016. Owners may contact Yamaha customer service at 1-800-962-7926. Yamaha's number for this recall is 990105.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 990105 is the number Yamaha assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 16V460000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.

Common questions
