Problem Walker Stainless Equipment Company LLC (Walker) is recalling certain 2018 Tank Trailers, equipped with MPA/MTA suspensions and Meritor EX225 brakes. The brake caliper bolts on these axles may not be properly torqued which can allow the caliper to detach from the mounting flange. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 121, "Air Brake Systems." Risk If the caliper bolts are improperly torqued, the caliper can detach resulting in a loss of braking ability, increasing the risk of a crash. Fix Walker has notified owners, and dealers will inspect the bolts, replacing any loose or missing ones, free of charge. The recall began on January 5, 2018. Owners may contact Walker customer service at 1-800-356-5734. Walker's numbers for this recall are W-6430 and W-6431.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. W-6430 W-6431 is the number Walker assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 17V833000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
