Problem Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain 2015-2017 VHD trucks. The Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) for the pusher or tag axle may be incorrect on the certification label. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification." Risk If the GAWR information is incorrect, the operator may overload the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. Fix Volvo will notify owners and provide a corrected label along with instructions on how to properly affix the new label to their vehicle, free of charge. The recall began June 15, 2017. Owners may contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586. Volvo's number for this recall is RVXX1701.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. RVXX1701 is the number Volvo assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 17V258000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
