Problem Volvo Car USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2017 S60L vehicles. A component within the door latch may break, preventing the door from latching properly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components." Risk A door that is not securely latched can open unexpectedly, increasing the risk of injury. Fix Dealers will replace all four door latches, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 11, 2026. Owners may contact Volvo Car’s customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo Car's number for this recall is R89978. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on January 19, 2026. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 19V849.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. R89978 is the number Volvo assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 26V072000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
