Problem Van Hool N.V. (Van Hool) is recalling certain 2018-2021 CX35, TDX25, 2018-2019 CX45, TX45, 2021 AG300, and 2018 TD925 vehicles. The sealing washer may not seat correctly in the pilot bore holes, allowing the high pressure fuel rail assembly to leak. Risk A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire. Fix Dealers will inspect the rail threads, and replace the rail as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 30, 2021. Owners may contact Van Hool customer service at 1-877-427-7278 or 1-407-656-7977. Van Hool's number for this recall is P1489.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. P1489 is the number VAN Hool assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 21V385000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR Part 573

Is P1489 the same recall as 21V385000?

Yes. P1489 is VAN Hool’s own number for it; 21V385000 is NHTSA’s. One recall, two references.

Which vehicles does P1489 cover?

2018–2021 VAN Hool AG300 and 5 other VAN Hool models, 681 vehicles by the manufacturer’s count. A recall covers a build range, so the VIN decides whether one particular vehicle is in it.

Does the P1489 repair cost anything?

No. The manufacturer must remedy a safety defect at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from first sale.
