Problem Turtle Top is recalling certain model year 2016 Odyssey transit buses manufactured December 17, 2015, to March 29, 2016. These vehicles are equipped with seats that may separate from the base frame due to bolt failure. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 222, "School Bus Passenger Seating and Crash Protection", and 213, "Child Restraint Systems." Risk In the event of a crash, the seat can separate from the base frame, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant. Fix Turtle Top will notify owners, and dealers will replace the seats, free of charge. The recall began on June 22, 2016. Owners may contact Turtle Top customer service at 1-574-831-4340. Turtle Top's number for this recall is 16E-037.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 16E-037 is the number Turtle TOP assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 16V281000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
