Problem Trail King Industries, Inc. (Trail King) is recalling certain 1992-2023 TKFA, TKPA, AB, and AB EXT trailers equipped with pin-on axles or pivot extensions. The shims that transfer weight between the trailer and the pin-on axle may detach if the air line or air suspension lose compression. Risk Detached shims can fall into the roadway and become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash. Fix Dealers will install new shims, tether, and hardware to tether the shims to the pin-on axle or pivot extension, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 6, 2023. Owners may contact Trail King customer service at 1-800-843-3324. Trail King's number for this recall is TK202301.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. TK202301 is the number Trail King assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 23V578000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
