Problem Tiffin Motorhomes, Inc. (Tiffin) is recalling certain model year 2017 Allegro Open Road motorhomes. A sticker on the tow hitch may list the incorrect weight capacity for the hitch. The sticker states a capacity of 10,000 lbs, and a maximum tongue weight of 1,000 lbs, when the correct towing capacity is 5,000 lbs, with a maximum tongue weight of 500 lbs. Risk If the hitch is loaded to the weight on sticker, the hitch may fail and the towed vehicle can separate from the motorhome, increasing the risk of a crash. Fix Tiffin will notify owners and will supply a corrected weight capacity sticker, free of charge. The recall began on March 22, 2017 . Owners may contact Tiffin customer service at 1-256-356-8661. Tiffin's number for this recall is TIF-105.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. TIF-105 is the number Tiffin assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 17V113000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
