Problem Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. (Suzuki) is recalling certain 2017-2018 GSX-R1000, GSX-R1000A, GSX-R1000RA, and GSX-R1000RZA motorcycles. When upshifting between first and second gear, if the rider fails to engage second gear, a neutral condition will exist and may cause very high engine RPM. If the rider then shifts into second gear without disengaging the clutch, the motorcycle’s chain may stretch or break. Risk If the drive chain breaks, the motorcycle will lose power, increasing the risk of a crash. Fix Suzuki will notify owners, and dealers will replace the Engine Control Module (ECM), and inspect and replace the drive chain and sprockets, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on January 25, 2018. Owners may contact Suzuki customer service at 1-714-572-1490. Suzuki's numbers for this recall are 2A76 to 2A81.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 2A76 to 2A81 is the number Suzuki assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 18V064000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
