Problem Spartan Motors USA (Spartan) is recalling certain model year 2011-2017 Transit Bus Chassis Cabs manufactured February 17, 2011, to October 19, 2016. The affected vehicles have an exhaust tube that may disconnect at a joint near the underside of the floor, potentially exposing the floor to high temperatures for prolonged time periods. Risk If the floor is exposed to the heat of exhaust gases for long periods, it can increase the risk of a fire. Fix Spartan will notify owners, and dealers will remove the current securing clamp and install a sleeve with different clamps, free of charge. The recall began on November 29, 2016. Owners may contact Spartan customer service at 1-800-543-4277. Spartan's number for this recall is 16026.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 16026 is the number Spartan Motors assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 16V795000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
