Problem Shyft Group (Shyft Group) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Spartan RV Chassis K3 vehicles. The fuel tubes between the fuel rail and the injectors for cylinders four, five, and six may fatigue and crack, which can result in a high pressure fuel leak. Risk A high pressure fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire. Fix On engines with 75 miles or less, dealers will install vibration isolators to the fuel tubes. Engines with more than 75 miles will receive new fuel tubes with vibration isolators. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 22, 2021. Owners may contact Cummins Care at 1-800-CUMMINS (1-800-286-6467) or visit the website at care.cummins.com or owners may contact Shyft Group customer service at 1-800-582-3454. Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 21-23 is the number Spartan assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 21V969000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR Part 573

Is 21-23 the same recall as 21V969000?

Yes. 21-23 is Spartan’s own number for it; 21V969000 is NHTSA’s. One recall, two references.

Which vehicles does 21-23 cover?

2020–2023 Spartan K3, 143 vehicles by the manufacturer’s count. A recall covers a build range, so the VIN decides whether one particular vehicle is in it.
