Problem Forest River Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2017 Prime Time Manufacturing Crusader recreational trailers, model CSF338RSK. The Federal placard indicates that the trailers have axles that have a capacity of 7,000 lbs when their actual capacity is 6,000 lbs. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification." Risk Incorrect axle information on the placard can result in the trailer being overloaded, causing a loss of control and increasing the risk of a crash. Fix Forest River will notify owners and dealers will replace the Federal placard with a corrected placard, free of charge. The recall began on March 20, 2017. Owners may contact Forest River Customer Service at 1-574-862-1025. Forest River's number for the recall is 49-02242017-0331.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 49-02242017-0331 is the number Prime Time assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 17V141000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
