Problem Nova Bus (Nova) is recalling certain 2020 Nova Bus LFS transit buses. Certain power steering pipes from the rear engine bay to the front gear box may separate at the connection joint. This may cause a power steering assist lost and power steering fluid may leak from the ceiling into the passenger compartment. Risk A loss of power steering assist may increase the risk of a crash. A power steering fluid leak into the passenger cabin may increase the risk of a passenger injury. Fix Nova Bus will notify owners, provide instructions for inspecting and replacing the power steering pipes, free of charge. The recall began October 7, 2020. Owners may contact Nova customer service at 1-800-350-6682. Nova's number for this recall is CR4963.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. CR4963 is the number Nova BUS assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 20V568000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
