Problem Motor Coach Industries (MCI) is recalling certain 2019 D45CRT-LE coaches. The seat belt retractors installed in the last row of the passenger seats may not function properly, preventing them from being used. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection" and 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies." Risk The inability to use the seat belts could increase the risk of injury in the event of a collision. Fix MCI will notify owners, and the seat belt manufacturer will modify the seat belt installation for the last row of seats, free of charge. The recall began November 6, 2020. Owners may contact MCI customer service at 1-800-241-2947. MCI's number for this recall is SB 490.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. SB 490 is the number MCI assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 20V578000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
