Problem Conel, LLC dba McElrath Trailers (McElrath Trailers) is recalling certain 2015-2017 VX30-800 and VX50-800 trailers. The frame on the trailers may deform at the transition of straight and angled lateral portions, possibly resulting in the trailer neck separating from the rear portion of the trailer. Risk If the trailer neck separates from the rear of the trailer there would be an increased risk of a crash. Fix McElrath has notified owners, and dealers will add bracing to the trailer to reduce deflection in the side rails and tongue area, free of charge. The recall began on September 19, 2017. Owners may contact McElrath Trailers customer service at 1-864-814-2220. McElrath's number for this recall is VSB 154.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. VSB 154 is the number Mcelrath Trailers assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 17V489000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
