Problem Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain 2019 CX-9 vehicles equipped with Sumitomo Falken ZIEX CT50 A/S tires, size P255/50R20 104V, having date code 1619. An incorrect rubber compound may have been used in the tire's manufacturing, allowing the tread to separate and detach. Risk A detached tire tread can decrease vehicle stability and increase the risk of a crash. Fix Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect all four tire serial numbers, replacing the tires as necessary, free of charge. The recall began December 4, 2019. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500, Option 4. Mazda's number for this recall is 4019J.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 4019J is the number Mazda assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 19V770000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.

Common questions

Is 4019J the same recall as 19V770000?

Yes. 4019J is Mazda’s own number for it; 19V770000 is NHTSA’s. One recall, two references.

Which vehicles does 4019J cover?

2019 Mazda CX-9, 146 vehicles by the manufacturer’s count. A recall covers a build range, so the VIN decides whether one particular vehicle is in it.
