Problem Maserati North America, Inc. (Maserati) is recalling certain model year 2014 Quattroporte and Ghibli vehicles manufactured June 1, 2013, to February 28, 2014. The affected vehicles, equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a monostable gear selector, may mislead owners about which gear the vehicle is in and may not adequately warn the driver when driver's door is opened and the vehicle is not in PARK, allowing them to exit the vehicle while the vehicle is still in gear. Risk Drivers thinking that their vehicle's transmission is in the PARK position may be struck by the vehicle and injured if they attempt to get out of the vehicle while the engine is running and the parking brake is not engaged. Fix Maserati will notify owners, and dealers will perform a software update, free of charge. The remedy software is currently in development. Owners were mailed an interim notification on July 1, 2016. A second notice will be mailed when the software is available. Owners may contact Maserati customer service at 1-877-696-2737. Maserati's number for this recall is 307.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 307 is the number Maserati assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 16V424000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR Part 573

Is 307 the same recall as 16V424000?

Yes. 307 is Maserati’s own number for it; 16V424000 is NHTSA’s. One recall, two references.

Which vehicles does 307 cover?

2014 Maserati Ghibli and 1 other Maserati model, 12,631 vehicles by the manufacturer’s count. A recall covers a build range, so the VIN decides whether one particular vehicle is in it.

Does the 307 repair cost anything?

No. The manufacturer must remedy a safety defect at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from first sale.
