Problem Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain 2025-2027 Pioneer (4) and 2026-2027 Anthem (4) vehicles. The rear brake modulators may have unprotected electrical connectors that can short circuit and lead to a loss of the anti-lock brake system (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC). Risk A loss of anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control increases the risk of a crash or injury. Fix Dealers will inspect the rear brake modulator electrical connectors, install a protective cover, and replace the rear brake modulators, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 8, 2026. Owners may contact Mack's customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack's number for this recall is SC0494. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning April 30, 2026.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. SC0494 is the number Mack assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 26V261000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR Part 573

Is SC0494 the same recall as 26V261000?

Yes. SC0494 is Mack’s own number for it; 26V261000 is NHTSA’s. One recall, two references.

Which vehicles does SC0494 cover?

2025–2027 Mack Anthem AN (4) and 1 other Mack model, 2,772 vehicles by the manufacturer’s count. A recall covers a build range, so the VIN decides whether one particular vehicle is in it.

Does the SC0494 repair cost anything?

No. The manufacturer must remedy a safety defect at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from first sale.
