Problem Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain 2026 Anthem (4) and 2025-2026 Pioneer vehicles. The automatic high beams (AHB) may not switch to low beam headlights as intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." Risk High beam headlights that do not switch to low beam as intended can reduce visibility for oncoming traffic, increasing the risk of a crash. Fix As an interim action, Mack will update the vehicle software through an over-the-air (OTA) update to disable the AHB feature, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed May 29, 2026. Owners may contact Mack's customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack's number for this recall is SC0488. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning November 27, 2025.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. SC0488 is the number Mack assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 25V803000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR Part 573

Is SC0488 the same recall as 25V803000?

Yes. SC0488 is Mack’s own number for it; 25V803000 is NHTSA’s. One recall, two references.

Which vehicles does SC0488 cover?

2025–2026 Mack Anthem AN (4) and 1 other Mack model, 247 vehicles by the manufacturer’s count. A recall covers a build range, so the VIN decides whether one particular vehicle is in it.

Does the SC0488 repair cost anything?

No. The manufacturer must remedy a safety defect at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from first sale.
