Problem Mack Trucks Inc. (Mack) is recalling one 2014 Pinnacle (CXU) vehicle and certain 2018-2019 Mack Anthem (AN) vehicles equipped with air brake supply tanks that have an air volume amount ranging from 70% to 96% of the amount required by the regulation. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 121, "Air Brake Systems." Risk The undersized air brake supply reservoir may provide an insufficient air supply to properly operate the brakes during repetitive brake applications, reducing braking performance and increasing the risk of a crash. Fix Mack will notify owners and dealers will add an air tank to the affected vehicles, free of charge. The recall began April 10, 2019. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack's number for this recall is SC0417.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. SC0417 is the number Mack assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 19V107000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR Part 573

Is SC0417 the same recall as 19V107000?

Yes. SC0417 is Mack’s own number for it; 19V107000 is NHTSA’s. One recall, two references.

Which vehicles does SC0417 cover?

2014–2019 Mack Anthem (an) and 2 other Mack models, 9 vehicles by the manufacturer’s count. A recall covers a build range, so the VIN decides whether one particular vehicle is in it.

Does the SC0417 repair cost anything?

No. The manufacturer must remedy a safety defect at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from first sale.
