Problem Lion Electric Company (Lion) is recalling certain 2021-2025 Lion6 and Lion8 vehicles. Loose hardware inside the high-voltage distribution unit (HVDU) or direct current junction box (DCJB) enclosures may contact electrical terminals, causing a short circuit. Risk A short circuit can shut down the high-voltage circuit, causing a loss of steering assistance or drive power and reducing braking power, increasing the risk of a crash. Fix Lion technicians will replace the hardware, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 21, 2023. Owners may contact Lion customer service at 1-855-546-6706. Lion's number for this recall is R2023-007a.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. R2023-007a is the number Lion assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 23V451000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
