Problem Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling certain 2018 Passport recreational trailers, models 153ML, 171EXP, 175BH, 195RB, 199ML, 217EXP and 239ML. The spare tire carrier may not have been mounted properly to the back wall of the trailer, and, as a result, the spare tire and carrier may detach from the trailer. Risk If the spare tire and carrier detaches from the trailer while it is being towed, it can increase the risk of a crash. Fix Keystone will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the spare tire carrier mounting and install reinforcing backers if necessary, free of charge. The recall began on April 14, 2018. Owners may contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone's number for this recall is 18-311.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 18-311 is the number Keystone assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 18V187000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
