Problem Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. (Kawasaki) is recalling certain 2019 Z900 ABS, Z900 RS ABS & Z900 RS CAFE ABS motorcycles. The ABS hydraulic unit (ABS unit) may have been contaminated with debris during the manufacturing process, possibly resulting in the front or rear wheel locking up when braking while riding. Risk If the front or rear wheel locks up while braking, there would be an increased risk of a crash. Fix Kawasaki has notified owners, and dealers will inspect the ABS unit, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began February 15, 2019. Owners may contact Kawasaki Customer Care at 1-866-802-9381. Kawasaki's number for this recall is MC19-01.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. MC19-01 is the number Kawasaki assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 19V083000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.

Common questions

Which vehicles does MC19-01 cover?

2019 Kawasaki Z900, 497 vehicles by the manufacturer’s count. A recall covers a build range, so the VIN decides whether one particular vehicle is in it.
