Problem Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. (KMC) is recalling certain 2024 ZR900C, ZR900E and ZR900N (Z900RS ABS, Z900RS CAFE ABS, and Z900RS SE ABS) motorcycles. Due to an improper manufacturing process during installation of the sidewall rubber of the tire, the front tire may blister on the inner surface. As such, these motorcycles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 119, "New Pneumatic Tires-Other Than Passenger Car." Risk A tire with inner wall blistering can fail, increasing the risk of a crash. Fix Dealers will replace the front tires, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 13, 2024. Owners may contact KMC customer service at 1-866-802-9381. KMC's number for this recall is DAL491A.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. DAL491A is the number Kawasaki assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 24V270000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR Part 573

Is DAL491A the same recall as 24V270000?

Yes. DAL491A is Kawasaki’s own number for it; 24V270000 is NHTSA’s. One recall, two references.

Which vehicles does DAL491A cover?

2024 Kawasaki ZR900C and 2 other Kawasaki models, 525 vehicles by the manufacturer’s count. A recall covers a build range, so the VIN decides whether one particular vehicle is in it.

Does the DAL491A repair cost anything?

No. The manufacturer must remedy a safety defect at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from first sale.
