Problem Karma Automotive (Karma) is recalling certain 2018 Karma Revero vehicles. In the event of a roll over crash, the side curtain/head protection air bags may not deploy as intended due to a rollover sensor system that is not enabled. The system also lacks an instrument cluster warning light and a description of the system in the owner's manual. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 226, "Ejection Mitigation." Risk If the side air bags do not deploy as intended in a roll over crash, it can increase the risk of injury. Fix Karma will notify owners, and dealers will replace the existing Airbag Control Unit (ACU) with a rollover enabled ACU and the owners manual will be updated with the description of the system, free of charge. The recall began July 1, 2019. Owners may contact Karma customer service at 1-855-288-6109. Karma's number for this recall is RC-19-84-01.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. RC-19-84-01 is the number Karma assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 19V296000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
