Problem Isuzu Technical Center of America, Inc. (Isuzu) is recalling certain 2018 Isuzu NPR and 2019 Isuzu NPR-HD and NPR-XD vehicles. These vehicles have a brake switch and nylon retainer that may not have been properly secured into the steel brake pedal assembly bracket. Risk If the brake switch and nylon retainer are not properly secured, the switch can detach from the bracket causing the brake lights to illuminate whether or not brake pedal is depressed, the shift interlock will not operate and the accelerator pedal input will be disabled resulting in the inability to accelerate. These conditions can increase the risk of a crash. Fix Isuzu has notified owners, and dealers will inspect the seating of the retainer, and re-seat the retainer clip or replace the retainer clip, if necessary, free of charge. The recall began on April 24, 2018. Owners may contact Isuzu customer service at 1-866-441-9638. Isuzu's number for this recall is V1801.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. V1801 is the number Isuzu assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 18V235000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR Part 573

Is V1801 the same recall as 18V235000?

Yes. V1801 is Isuzu’s own number for it; 18V235000 is NHTSA’s. One recall, two references.

Which vehicles does V1801 cover?

2018–2019 Isuzu NPR and 2 other Isuzu models, 80 vehicles by the manufacturer’s count. A recall covers a build range, so the VIN decides whether one particular vehicle is in it.

Does the V1801 repair cost anything?

No. The manufacturer must remedy a safety defect at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from first sale.
