Problem Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2021-2023 International MV vehicles. The high voltage positive cables that connect the battery packs to the manual service disconnects (MSD) may have been mislabeled. Risk A misidentified electrical cable may be mistaken for a de-energized cable by a technician or first responder, increasing the risk of electrical shock and injury. Fix Dealers will reinstall the battery cables and replace the associated warning labels, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed January 13, 2023. Remedy parts are expected to become available 1st Quarter of 2023. Owners may contact Navistar's customer service at 1-800-448-7825. Navistar's number for this recall is 22522.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 22522 is the number International assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 22V849000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.

Common questions

Is 22522 the same recall as 22V849000?

Yes. 22522 is International’s own number for it; 22V849000 is NHTSA’s. One recall, two references.

Which vehicles does 22522 cover?

2021–2023 International MV, 95 vehicles by the manufacturer’s count. A recall covers a build range, so the VIN decides whether one particular vehicle is in it.
