Problem Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2018-2019 International HX and LT trucks equipped with a Cummins ISX engine and a Wabco 37.4 air compressor. The air compressor discharge line may contact the fuel filter inlet and outlet lines (fuel lines) and the heat generated from the air compressor discharge line may cause heat damage to the fuel lines. Risk Continued heat damage to the fuel lines could cause the fuel lines to rupture, resulting in a fuel leak and increasing the risk of a fire. Fix Navistar will notify owners, and dealers will replace the straight fitting on the air compressor discharge line and the discharge line with a 45-degree fitting and a redesigned discharge line, free of charge. The recall began on July 20, 2018. Owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825. Navistar's number for this recall is 18511.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 18511 is the number International assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 18V412000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR Part 573

Is 18511 the same recall as 18V412000?

Yes. 18511 is International’s own number for it; 18V412000 is NHTSA’s. One recall, two references.

Which vehicles does 18511 cover?

2018–2019 International HX and 1 other International model, 19 vehicles by the manufacturer’s count. A recall covers a build range, so the VIN decides whether one particular vehicle is in it.

Does the 18511 repair cost anything?

No. The manufacturer must remedy a safety defect at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from first sale.
