Problem Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2019 International LT heavy diesel trucks equipped with feature codes 29WAY, 504312, and 504455. The lightweight brake drums with slack adjusters may drag against the brakes causing the drums to overheat which can result in the brake drum cracking, separating from the vehicle or the brakes becoming inoperative. Risk If the brake drum separates or if the brakes become inoperative, it can increase the risk of a crash. Fix Navistar has notified owners, and dealers will replace the brake drums and slack adjusters and replace the brake linings, free of charge. The recall began on May 23, 2018. Owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825. Navistar's number for this recall is 18507.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 18507 is the number International assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 18V306000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
