Problem Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2018-2019 International LT trucks. When the hood is in the closed position, the fender splash panel may rub on the inlet fuel line fitting to the fuel/water separator, causing abrasion damage to the fitting and possibly resulting in a fuel leak. Risk A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire. Additionally, fuel leaking onto the roadway may increase the risk of a crash. Fix Navistar will notify owners, and dealers will trim the splash panel, and replace the fuel/water inlet line if it is damaged, free of charge. The recall began on May 14, 2018. Owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825. Navistar's number for this recall is 18503.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 18503 is the number International assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 18V199000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
