Problem General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2022 GMC Hummer EV vehicles. Taillight software can cause one or both rear taillights to become inoperative, or remain fully or partially illuminated. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." Risk A taillight that fails to illuminate or illuminates incorrectly may reduce the visibility of the vehicle, or communicate incorrect information to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash. Fix Dealers will inspect and replace as necessary, the left and/or right rear taillight assemblies. Owner notification letters were not required but all vehicles were remedied as of March 17, 2022. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N222359830.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. N222359830 is the number GMC assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 22V141000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
