Problem Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain model year 2017 XLR recreational trailers, models XLF413AMP, XLF422AMP, WZXLF422AMP and XLF380AMP, manufactured September 29, 2016, to November 8, 2016. The affected vehicles may be equipped with an incorrect Federal Placard that does not indicate that the vehicle has a third axle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification." Risk If the Federal Placard is missing the correct axle information, the operator may overload the trailer, causing a loss of a vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash. Fix Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will install a corrected Federal Placard, free of charge. The recall began on December 1, 2016. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-642-0432. Forest River's number for this recall is 45-11122016-0272.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 45-11122016-0272 is the number Forest River assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 16V846000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
