Problem Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2014-2015 Coachmen RV Encounter recreational vehicles, and 2014-2018 Coachmen RV Mirada and Mirada Select recreational vehicles equipped with the residential refrigerator option instead of the standard refrigerator. The unused, but powered, wiring for the standard refrigerator was left with exposed wire ends. Risk If the energized positive wire and negative wire make contact, the wires may sort circuit and possibly melt, increasing the risk of a fire. Fix Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will disconnect the positive and negative wires from the battery, free of charge. The recall began on August 3, 2017. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-825-8212. Forest River's number for this recall is 310-06212017-0455.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 310-06212017-0455 is the number Forest River assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 17V396000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
