Problem Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Freightliner Custom Chassis XCP chassis manufactured from April 26, 2013, through January 15, 2015. The power steering fluid temperature may exceed the power steering hose material ratings on some rear engine chassis built with certain 18,000lb and 20,000lb-load capacity front axles used in motor home applications. This can cause the hose to fail, resulting in a sudden loss of power steering fluid and power assist. Risk Loss of power steering assist would result in increased difficulty to steer the vehicle in either direction at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash. Fix DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the power steering hose with a hose that has a higher temperature rating, free of charge. The recall began on July 22, 2016. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's recall number for this campaign is FL-702.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. FL-702 is the number Fccc assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 16V121000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
