Problem East Manufacturing Corp. (East) is recalling certain model year 2016 Beast II flatbed trailers manufactured May 22, 2015, to June 19, 2015, equipped with certain Conestoga XP sliding trailer tarping systems with RAD-style rear closures. In the affected trailers, the rear aerodynamic device (RAD) may separate from the rear of the tarping system, due to rivet failure. Risk If the RAD detaches from the trailer it may be a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash. Fix East will notify owners, and dealers will replace the mounting rivets with a bolted connection, free of charge. The recall began on September 6, 2016. Owners may contact East customer service at 1-330-325-9921. East's number for this recall is 16E-066.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 16E-066 is the number East assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 16V771000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
