Problem Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling certain model year 2017 Dutchmen Voltage toy hauler fifth wheel trailers manufactured March 11, 2016, to June 14, 2016. The affected vehicles were incorrectly built with a 18,000 lb rated fifth wheel pin box hitch instead of a 21,000 lb rated hitch. Risk If the vehicle is loaded to a weight greater than 18,000 lbs, the pin box can fail, possibly resulting in the trailer separating from the tow vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash. Fix Keystone notified owners, and dealers will remove and replace the pin box inner with one rated for 21,000 lbs, free of charge. The recall began on August 5, 2016. Owners may contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone's number for this recall is 16-259.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 16-259 is the number Dutchmen assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 16V564000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
