Problem Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Dutchmen Kodiak recreational trailers manufactured June 10, 2015 through April 6, 2016. In the affected vehicles, the two sections of LED rope lights that serve as backlighting for the countertop each have exposed ends which may short against each other, possibly resulting in an electrical short. Risk An electrical short increases the risk of a fire. Fix Keystone notified owners, and dealers will install a heat shrink tube over one of the LED rope light ends, free of charge. The recall began on June 8, 2016. Owners may contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone's number for this recall is 16-255.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 16-255 is the number Dutchmen assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 16V402000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
