Problem Custom Fire Apparatus, Inc. is recalling certain 2002-2019 Pumpers, Tankers and Rescue vehicles built on a Spartan Motors chassis. The service brake air reservoir system may not be pressure protected where the control line for the automatic tire chain system is connected. Risk If the control line is cut, the service brake air system may suddenly lose air, increasing the risk of a crash. Fix Spartan will notify Custom Fire owners. Dealers will inspect the routing of the control lines, rerouting them into the auxiliary air reservoir as necessary, free of charge. The recall began November 15, 2019. Owners may contact Custom Fire customer service at 1-715-294-2555. Custom Fire's number for this recall is 19V674.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 19V674 is the number Custom Fire assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 19V764000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
